Gerber Bear Grylls Compact Scout Knife Review

Let’s begin with a little clarification regarding knives … while, yes, knives can be used as weapons, so too can my pen and as far as I’m concerned we need to take things in the context of which they’re meant. With that said, let’s move onto the review of The Gerber Bear Grylls Compact Scout Knife.

The Gerber Bear Grylls Compact Scout Knife is the “little brother” of The Gerber Bear Grylls Scout Knife with an overall length is about 5 inches. The blade length is about 2 inches, with a closed length of only 2.6 inches and weighs less then an ounce. The blade is made of high carbon stainless steel with an anti-reflective coating. The blade has a useful drop point design, which is excellent for general purposes like camping and fishing … and um … shopping like when you buy a new gadget for your phone (that you HAVE to play with) and it’s encased in alien plastic that requires a knife to remove.

The blade conveniently tucks away for safe carrying and opens easily with a thumbnail notch. About a third of the blade is serrated, which is why it was useful when extracted my new phone gadget from the alien plastic encasing, the remainder of the blade is a typical fine edge. The YUEDGE Solar Rechargeable LED Lantern is almost all that one could ask for in a lantern of this type. It offers quite a lot such as a retractable lantern and flashlight. This is the first time that I’ve seen a lantern that offers both. It also has a sturdy rubber handle that can be moved to go across the top making it highly convenient to hang on a tree branch when camping.

While this lantern is solar charged, I can tell you from personal experience that sometimes you need an alternative power source and the lantern does come with two plugs for just that situation. One is a USB and the other is a European plug. The European plug is my only con with this lantern and for me it’s not that big of a deal because of the USB feature.

TaYun Sport Set of 2 Microfiber Super Absorbent and Quick Drying Towel Review

I love this particular towel set by TaYun Sport because the company has taken the time to include very thorough washing instructions so that you can get the most out of your towels. That attention to detail always impresses me with any company. Of course, washing instructions certainly isn’t enough for me to state that a towel is superior. That would be the fact that these are soft, highly portable, absorbent and perfect for multiple uses!

The hand towel is approximately 16” by 8” and is folds to approximately 4” by 4”, making it easy to toss into a backpack. I find that anytime I go hiking, I’m in need of a highly absorbent hand towel for one reason or another … mainly because I’m notoriously clumsy. This black light flashlight by Esco-Lite is a really nice one to have. I have owned others that have not had near the quality of this one. I was actually surprised by the quality given that this flashlight is compact. It takes three AAA batteries that are included so you are good to use it as soon as you receive it! It is incredibly powerful with 395nm wavelength, co I caution people to be careful not to point the light at peoples eyes. If you’re looking to find out where funky pet smells are coming from, you will absolutely find out with this flashlight. It also works incredibly well outdoors.

We all know that I’m a little wacky and have begun to stockpile these types of flashlights. No, I’m not waiting for the apocalypse! First, my family does a lot of camping and second, we lose electricity often enough that it has become a nuisance. The Suaoki Camping Led Lantern is perfect for both situations. It will also charge your smartphone!

It’s compact for portability and expands if need be. There are two light modes and you can power this baby up via USB or hand crank. Beanie Knit Hat by Cache Alaska Review

This is the second Beanie Hat that I have review for Cache Alaska. And just as the other, as soon as I opened this hat I was stoked. It’s basically the middle of May here in the Northeast, but the weather is very unseasonably cold. Mr. Hubs has to be on site long before most of us wake up and this light blue cap looks good on Mr. Hubs.

Of course when it comes to hat of this type, function is the objective. The craftsmanship of this beanie cap is outstanding. The knit and stitching are consistent throughout and it is super soft. The softness was a bit of a happy surprise due to the fact that this is a 50/50 wool acrylic blend – Mr. Hubs usually can’t deal with wool no matter the blend. There is also soft felt lining that adds to the comfort of this hat. It’s warm, stylish and has a great price point. Bonus … it’s machine washable!

Small Outdoor Grey Blanket by Pratico Outdoors

I have always kept a blanket in my trunk. I think that it’s something that my father told me to do years ago in case of emergencies although I’ve never had to use it for an emergency. This outdoor blanket by PraticoOutdoors was very well thought through in design and puts the plain old blanket that I currently have in my car to shame.

It comes in a portable bag with a handle. Inside, the bag the blanket is wrapped with a buckle strap. One side is waterproof, which is perfect for camping or outdoor concerts; the other side is a soft fleece. The blanket is really warm and comfortable. Love this and can’t wait to use it this summer!
