Book Review: ‘Great Taste No Pain’ by Sherry Brescia

I absolutely believe that everything happens for a reason and that things come into our lives exactly when they’re supposed to. Until a little over a year ago I’d never had digestive or intestinal issues and then around last April … it all began. I began to experience bloating, indigestion and intestinal issues.

My father passed away from colon cancer so I was absolutely terrified. So terrified that I opted to ignore my discomfort until it all became too much. In the end (no pun intended) I was diagnosed with IBS and the doctor attempted to put me on meds for which I refused and which brings me to my point.

I believe that many of our ills can be alleviated through proper nutrition. However, I am not trained in any nutritional sciences and often turn to “Dr. Google” which is not always the best sources of information. And then, I was asked to review “Great Taste No Pain” by Sherry Brescia. Initially, I thought that the book was about weight-loss and wasn’t especially thrilled to review it. Never judge a book by its cover!

With more than 1 out of 3 adults in the United States (70 million) taking over the counter or prescription pills for digestive disorders and the pain associated with them, as a nation, we have serious health problems. Sherry, a previous IBS suffer herself, takes the reader through an intense yet easy to understand crash course on the science of food combining. The first 72 pages of this 220-page book are dedicated to understanding the proper way to food combine and how to painlessly integrate this type of eating into your life. Oh, are you asking, “What is food combining?”

Food combining is a very simple theory that leads to pain free digestion and better absorption of nutrients. For example, when you combine steak (protein), which requires an acidic stomach with a potato (starch), which requires an alkaline stomach, you throw your whole digestive system into disorder. This makes perfect sense and the way in which Sherry explains proper food combining is so incredibly simple that anyone can understand it and that anyone can painlessly adapt to.

Aside from a thorough crash course in food combining, Great Taste No Pain is a cookbook with over 100 recipes for all occasions. And you don’t need “special” ingredients to make these delicious recipes. Great Taste No Pain is not an overhaul of your current diet, it’s a makeover and one that your gut will thank you for! Great Taste No Pain sells for $39.97 at Holistic Blends, but the nice folks at HB are offering readers a 15% coupon code: hbaf2015 and the code does not expire.
