Born and raised in Philadelphia,
I knew that I was most likely going to enjoy this book, based solely upon a
“hometown” type of pride. You see, while those from Philadelphia, PA and those
from New Jersey laugh at one another across the Ben Franklin, we have a
long-standing bond akin to that of ornery siblings. I also have a deep love of
history, so I knew that “Early Aviation in Monmouth County, New Jersey by
George Joynson” was either going to be dry and distasteful or intriguing and
delicious. I can happy report that the book is the latter.
If you enjoy aviation, if you
enjoy history, then this is an absolute must read. What you’ll find inside this
book is page after page of interesting facts about aviation during the time
period of 1908-1930. However, the author takes the reader on a journey from a
personal perspective sharing the lives of the pioneers of aviation. The book is
filled with photos, illustrations and pictures of documents that give the
reader a true feel of what it was like to be involved in aviation during early
20th century. My only issue with “Early Aviation in Monmouth County,
New Jersey by George Joynson” is that it is currently available in paperback
and I can’t help but think that this book would make an exceptional coffee
table book.
