Top 5 Songs of Summer 2011

Labor Day marks the unofficial close of summer and with three days to go before the official Billboard Summer Songs 2011; I’ve composed my top 5 for summer 2011. So with that in mind, here’s the unofficial list of the top 5 hottest songs of the 2011 summer season.

1) LMFAO - “Party Rock Anthem,” featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock

Son and grandson of Motown founder, Barry Gordy, the electric-pop duo of Redfoo (Stefan Kendal Gordy) and SkyBlu (Skyler Husten Gordy) make up the entity known as LMFAO. Get your mind out of the gutter; it stands for Loving My Friends And Others.

2) Pitbull - “Give Me Everything,” featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer

Armando Christian Pérez aka Pitbull was born to Cuban immigrant parents who made him recite the works of poet Jose Martí. As a blue-eyed, Cuban American Pitbull definitely encountered problems early in his career, but it’s all right now.

3) Nicki Minaj - “Super Bass”

Onika Tanya Maraj aka Nicki Minaj was born in Trinidad and raised in Queens. Minaj has stated that artists who have influenced her musical style include Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, Lil Wayne, Lauryn Hill, Jadakiss, Natasha Bedingfield, Foxy Brown and Missy Elliott

4) Katy Perry - "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson aka Katy Perry was raised in a strict Christian home, both of Perry’s parents are ministers, she was home schooled and grew up listening to only gospel music. Go figure.

5) Adele - "Rolling In The Deep"

Born Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, Adele began singing at age four and has cited the Spice Girls as a major influence in regard to her love and passion for music, stating, "they made me what I am today."
