Summer work style tips to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of 'The Devil Wears Prada'

We’re fairly certain that everyone has experienced a boss similar to Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, in the dramatic comedy “The Devil Wears Prada.” And just in time for the iconic movie’s 10-year anniversary on June 30th, we were very fortunate to get the hottest tips on summer work style from Style Expert, Lindsay Albanese. Partnering with T.J.Maxx & Marshalls, Lindsay’s tips are on-trend for Summer 2016 and beyond!

Blazers are the best way to create instant sophistication in the workplace and help show off a perfectly slimming silhouette. Lindsay shares that her favorite way to style a blazer is to pair it with designer boyfriend jeans, a simple tee and colorful pumps or sleek flats. Sadly, not everyone can sport such a casual look at the office. However, if that is the case for you Lindsay recommends slightly loose fitting cropped trousers for a more effortless and refined summer look.

While many of us like to reach for vibrant colors during the summer, Lindsay suggests trying a monochromatic cream and white ensemble. Try mixing various textures to add interest and dimension like a clean light-knit sweater with lace sleeves or designer dress with a subtle pattern. For those who are a little apprehensive about white adding bulk, be sure to select structured, tailored, and A-line pieces to create clean lines against your frame.

Don’t be afraid of textures. You can amp up your office style with texture by incorporating three different and distinct textures such as suede, silk and a lightweight knit or denim topper. While suede is not a typical summer staple, the texture is very luxe and when worn with weightless silk, it creates an elegant contrast. Adding an additional knit or denim element, whether it be subtle or statement, further adds dimension. All these elements together make for an elevated style that’s ideal for an office environment. If you fear it might be too much, anchor your outfit with one item that is a matte or twill fabric to offset bold textures. It’s all about mixing and matching the textures so don’t be afraid to play around with the fabrics.

When in doubt, a breezy skirt is always a foolproof idea for a hot, sticky summer day. From midi to maxi and skater to pencil, the cut and movement of a skirt is wildly feminine and elegant, making it an essential summer staple. Go full on feminine with an equally polished tucked in blouse and pumps or channel your own street style moment with a tee and fun flats. Remember to keep the short skirts for the weekend … nothing should be shorter than mid-thigh during working hours.

We recently popped into two of our favorites stores, T.J.Maxx and Marshalls, and were able to find all of Lindsay Albanese’s perfect summer work wardrobe suggestions for much less then our other high-end stores. After you pop into one of the stores on your lunch break, don’t forget to prep for a little “The Devil Wears Prada” evening, which is available for viewing on iTunes!
